(Washington, DC – 6/24/23) Today marks one year since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Since then, dozens of states have passed abortion bans, leaving millions of people with little or no access to safe reproductive healthcare. Anti-abortion groups are advocating for even more severe restrictions, including promoting a nationwide ban of the abortion pill mifepristone.
Though the past year has been a terrifying time for people who need abortions, pro-choice activists have been hard at work to protect access to safe reproductive healthcare. In states like Kansas, Kentucky, and Montana, constituent’s have voted to protect reproductive freedom on the ballot. We watched anti-abortion lawmakers dramatically under-perform in the 2022 midterm elections.
The National Women’s Political Caucus will never stop fighting for safe, legal, and accessible reproductive healthcare. As we gear up for the 2024 election, we remain committed to recruiting, training, electing, and supporting pro-choice women candidates up and down the ballot. Together, we’ll make reproductive freedom a reality for all.
