(Washington, DC – July 8, 2026) The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) calls on Graham Platner to withdraw immediately from Maine’s U.S. Senate race following a report that a former girlfriend has accused him of sexual assault, the latest in a pattern of serious concerns raised about his conduct toward women.
“Mainers deserve a Senator that will protect women,” said Deidre Malone, president, National Women’s Political Caucus. “ This allegation is part of a larger web of accusations that have followed this campaign consistently.”
The NWPC believes survivors deserve to be heard and taken seriously, not dismissed as a political inconvenience. Serious allegations of this nature demand accountability. A candidate facing credible accusations of this severity cannot credibly represent the interests of women, or of any constituents, in the United States Senate.
The people of Maine deserve a nominee who reflects their values and can serve without the shadow of serious, credible allegations hanging over their candidacy. The NWPC urges Graham Platner to withdraw from the race without delay.
