Karen Humphrey
2nd VP of Development
Karen Humphrey has been active with NWPC since joining in 1979 and is excited to be taking a position on the national board supporting the organization’s development needs. Over her years in NWPC, she served as President of NWPC Fresno, NWPC Sacramento, and NWPC California. She currently serves as Public Policy Co-chair for NWPC-CA, working on policy and legislative priorities, and is a member of the NWPC National Political Planning and Appointments Committee.
Humphrey is retired from a multi-faceted 45-year career in communications, public service, and education. She broke gender barriers as a TV journalist, the first woman Mayor of Fresno, and first woman Executive Director of California’s higher education agency. She “flunked” retirement, continuing to be active in all three levels of NWPC and working to elect more women, including more diverse women, to public office. She also works on issues of housing and homelessness in the Sacramento region with a faith-based social justice organization. She is widowed with three grown daughters, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
