19^th Biennial Convention 2009

Newport Beach, California – August 8, 2009

Over 100 members of the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) met in Newport Beach, CA on August 7-9 at their 19th annual biennial convention and elected their national officers.

“This is an amazing group of women who are dedicated to fulfilling the mission of our organization, to get more women elected and appointed across the country,” said Flores. “I look forward to serving with them.”

The Convention also featured appearances by many local elected women and candidates as well as Congresswomen Loretta Sanchez and Maxine Waters and NWPC “Good Guy” Award Winner, California Controller John Chiang.

Exceptional Merit in Media Awards

The Exceptional Merit in Media Awards (the EMMAs), held July 14 at the National Press Club, was hugely successful. The acclaimed Television and Broadway actress Tyne Daly served as our celebrity presenter.

With spirited feminism and broadway flair, Ms. Daly handed out EMMAs to our winners which included: Tommy Warren for his feature film, "The Inner Circle;" Kamala Lopez for her film on Congresswoman Jeannette Rankin, "A Single Woman;" Stacy Schiff for her article on Cleopatra in the New York Times; Dee Dee Myers for her book "Why Women Should Rule the World;" Linda Lowen for her article, "Sarah Palin, 'Girl' Candidate;" Katha Pollitt for her editorial, "Iron my Skirt" and Glamour Magazine for three outstanding articles on the 2008 election.

Our First Vice President and VP for Development, Linda Young, did a magnificent job of putting this event together. It was a lively, enthusiastic event and a good time was had by all.
